Lew Trumble is originally from the Southern Tier of New York State, where he earned a Pony Club B rating, participated in competitive trail riding (New York and Vermont 100’s), showed horses and did some eventing. After graduating high school in 1977, he earned degrees from Sterling College in Craftsbury Common, Vermont and Paul Smith’s College in Saranac Lake, New York.
In 1983, Lew joined the staff at the Hobby Horse Farm in Fairview, PA (now The Willows). He has ridden, trained and taught there ever since. While still affiliated with The Willow’s, Lew trained horses in Florida in 1987 and 1988. In 1989 he trained that years AHSA Reserve Champion Working Hunter Horse of the year. He has also taken horses to the Junior Quarter Horse World Show in Texas and the Appaloosa World Show in Oklahoma.
In terms of Equitation, Lew has sent riders to the McClay Regional Competition in St. Louis, MO and in 1997 to the Capitol Challenge in Washington DC. He has personally continued to ride and some years ago evented his own horse through Preliminary. Lew has also enjoyed much success in Hunter/Equitation shows on the Hunter Circuit in PA, OH, NY and KY. His riders have earned many championships and reserves in several divisions. In 2001, he trained the champion Green Hunter Pony at the Pony Finals.
Now, after 20 years at the same location Lew has chosen to move his base of operation to Breneric Stables, Route 99, McKean PA, where he will continue his program.
